SMEAC VOLUNTEERS

“Support. Purpose. Community.”

Help SMEAC Help Veterans – Finding A Purpose Along the Way

At SMEAC, we subscribe to Veterans Helping Veterans – and to us that involves the broader community.

Volunteering with SMEAC means you’re not just lending your time or skills – you’re standing shoulder to shoulder with those torn from the same cloth, those who have served, helping them rebuild, reconnect, and thrive.

MOBILE OVERWATCH

SMEAC’s Mobile Overwatch is a proactive outreach initiative where trained veterans check in on those who may be isolated, at risk, or in need of support. Operating across the region, our teams offer a watchful presence, a listening ear, and immediate assistance when required—ensuring no veteran is left behind.

SERVICES

SMEAC offers direct, veteran-driven support services focused on real outcomes. Whether it’s crisis accommodation, wellbeing assistance, help navigating DVA, or access to our community clubs and retraining programs, our services are built around the needs of those who’ve served. We don’t just offer advice—we take action.

RAPID RESPONCE

SMEAC’s Rapid Response Teams are boots-on-the-ground support units made up of veterans helping veterans in times of crisis. Whether it’s assisting with emergency accommodation, welfare checks, or urgent practical needs, these teams act fast, with compassion and firsthand understanding. When time matters, SMEAC responds.

But volunteering doesn’t just benefit the veteran in need. It’s also an opportunity to gain a sense of purpose, build lasting friendships, and make a real difference in the lives of others—and your own.

Whether you’re a veteran yourself, a family member, or someone who simply wants to give back, SMEAC offers meaningful roles and responsibilities that contribute directly to the wellbeing of our veteran community.

Why Volunteer with SMEAC?

✅ Make an Impact – Directly support veterans through practical help, connection, and kindness.
Find Purpose – Be part of something bigger than yourself—restore meaning, structure, and community.
Develop Skills – Gain experience in event support, wellbeing, maintenance, logistics, coaching, administration, and more.

Volunteering can be as simple as helping out at a BBQ, lending a hand during events, supporting admin work, or offering specialised skills (like trade work, coaching, or counselling).

A One-of-a-Kind Location

Volunteering at SMEAC means becoming part of something truly special.

Camp SMEAC is situated on 50 hectares of serene bushland near the Sunshine Coast – just an hour from Brisbane and 10 minutes from Caloundra.

The property is equipped with outstanding facilities including a lake stocked with fish, kayaking opportunities, a 12 km mountain bike trail next door, and scenic bushwalking tracks.

There’s something grounding and healing about this natural environment. Whether you’re helping with outdoor activities, maintaining the grounds, or simply enjoying a break on the deck, Camp SMEAC offers space to breathe, connect, and reset—surrounded by the beauty of nature.

SMEAC’s veteran-led clubs are open to both members and volunteers.

They offer another way to build connection and community through shared passions and purpose-driven hobbies. These include:

Regular games and casual tournaments bring veterans and locals together, reinforcing SMEAC’s mission of structured support, purpose, and belonging—one thoughtful move at a time.

ANFIB, FISHING CLUB
SWARM PATROL, APIS CLUB

SWARM PATROL – SMEAC’s APIS Club is a buzzing community of veterans and supporters united by a shared passion for beekeeping, sustainability, and service. Named after the Latin word for “bee,” the APIS Club provides a hands-on, purpose-driven environment where members learn to care for hives, harvest honey, and support local ecosystems. Like bees in a hive, every member has a role, contributing to a greater mission that reflects SMEAC’s ethos—discipline, teamwork, and collective strength.

DIGGERS, GARDENING CLUB

When you donate to SMEAC, you’re not just giving—you’re changing lives. Your support directly impacts Australian veterans who are struggling to transition into civilian life, facing isolation, mental health challenges, and the loss of purpose after service.

Your donation isn’t just charity—it’s a lifeline. It’s a stand for those who stood for us. Every contribution helps a veteran access real solutions, find community, and rediscover hope.
