SMEAC ENGAGEMENT
& TRIAGE MODEL
TURNING YOUR CHALLENGES INTO OUR MISSION
SMEAC Engagement & Triage Model
Turning Your Challenges Into Our Mission
When a veteran reaches out for help, they’re often overwhelmed by confusion – unsure of what services are available, what they’re eligible for, or where to even start.
At SMEAC, we specialise in turning that uncertainty into a structured path forward.
Through our Engagement & Triage Model, we identify the veteran’s most urgent need and make it our shared mission—while holistically addressing the broader aspects of their wellbeing.
The first step in the process is always personal.
Our team meets with each veteran to conduct a Discovery Meeting, where we listen, assess, and understand their current situation.
This might reveal immediate issues such as housing insecurity, relationship breakdowns, trauma recovery, or financial hardship.
From there, we implement a tailored Action Plan that addresses those core issues while also unlocking long-term support options.
SMEAC’s model acknowledges that veterans often face more than one challenge at a time.
That’s why we don’t offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we coordinate targeted interventions across key life domains.
These may include employment pathways, mental health support, DVA navigation, addiction services, and community reconnection.
Our programs are backed by real-world outcomes and delivered by people who understand—because they’ve walked the same path.

In addition, SMEAC empowers veterans to upskill and retrain, helping them regain confidence and a renewed sense of purpose.
From wellbeing workshops and financial education to hands-on training programs, we offer a variety of pathways that enable veterans to reclaim control over their lives and build meaningful futures beyond service.
We also place a strong emphasis on family engagement.
Many veterans’ struggles ripple outward, impacting loved ones. SMEAC provides access to counselling, and inclusive social events that rebuild trust and strengthen relationships at home.
By supporting the whole unit, we help veterans achieve sustainable outcomes – not just short-term relief.
At every stage, SMEAC’s Engagement & Triage Model is grounded in respect, purpose, and action.
We don’t just refer – we walk with veterans, helping them understand their situation, map a way forward, and navigate the steps to success.
The mission is personal, the journey is shared, and the goal is always the same: to move forward with strength, purpose, and dignity.
SMEAC SERVICES AND SUPPORT
WELLBEING COACH
The role of the Wellbeing Coach is to educate, guide, and empower veterans to take ownership of their journey—supporting them to navigate the DVA process and broader life challenges with confidence and independence.
Mobile Overwatch
SMEAC will extend its regional reach through mobile teams based in or deployed to remote areas—providing localised overwatch and ensuring that veterans in isolated communities receive consistent, face-to-face support when and where it’s needed most.
Rapid Response
SMEAC deploys teams of veterans to support fellow veterans in need and families in crisis—delivering timely, practical help grounded in trust, shared experience, and solidarity. These teams provide more than just assistance; they offer reassurance, peer connection, and a reminder that no one has to face hardship alone. This model strengthens purpose, reinforces community, and ensures help arrives when it’s needed most.
WHY DONATE
When you donate to SMEAC, you’re not just giving – you’re stepping in when it matters most.
Your support goes directly to Australian veterans who are struggling with the realities of life after service – battling isolation, mental health challenges, and the loss of purpose.
SMEAC is entirely volunteer-run, so every dollar you give goes straight to the frontline – funding vital programs, emergency accommodation, and the ongoing operation of Camp SMEAC, a sanctuary built for healing, reconnection, and renewal.
SMEAC is more than just a charity – it’s a commitment to those who served.
Your donation delivers real solutions, creates meaningful change, and helps veterans reclaim their future.
Give today – because no veteran should ever be left to fight alone.
