WELLBEING COACH

A CAMP SMEAC SERVICE

The Wellbeing Coach

A SMEAC Veteran Service

The SMEAC Wellbeing Coach program is designed to walk beside veterans as they navigate the complex world of DVA and related services.

Built on a Tell Me / Show Me / Let Me model, this veteran-centric approach builds confidence, strengthens understanding, and restores control – without replacing the role of advocates or formal representatives.

Each coach will be trained and mentored by professionals with both lived experience and coaching expertise.

Operating in a flexible, supportive environment, coaches will be equipped to build lasting relationships and provide consistent, personalised guidance over time.

Their role is to enable – not do for – veterans, creating ownership and resilience.

Wellbeing Coaches will be accessible across SMEAC’s network, including the RAP (Regional Access Point), via satellite locations, and through the Mobile Overwatch Teams.

Veterans will be able to engage with a coach in person, by phone, or during outreach visits – ensuring ongoing access regardless of location.

The coaching model is centred on establishing a healthy, proactive relationship between the veteran and the DVA process. It promotes accountability, provides a clear action plan, and empowers veterans to take progressive steps at their own pace, with support available at every stage.

Importantly, the presence of a trusted coach improves mental wellbeing.

Veterans feel seen, heard, and supported in a way that breaks down adversarial barriers.

With each step, they become more self-sufficient, which over time contributes to improved individual outcomes and reduces system-wide dependency.

SMEAC’s Wellbeing Coach program represents a long-overdue shift in how veterans are supported – practical, empowering, and built on the foundational values of trust, service, and mateship.

SMEAC SERVICES AND SUPPORT

ENGAGEMENT MODEL

SMEAC’s Engagement Model is built on trust, consistency, and veteran-to-veteran connection. We meet individuals where they’re at—without judgement—and guide them through a structured support journey focused on reconnection, rehabilitation, retraining, and reintegration. It’s a hands-on, relationship-driven approach that delivers real results.

WELLBEING COACH

The role of the Wellbeing Coach is to educate, guide, and empower veterans to take ownership of their journey—supporting them to navigate the DVA process and broader life challenges with confidence and independence.

Mobile Overwatch

SMEAC’s Mobile Overwatch is a proactive outreach initiative where trained veterans check in on those who may be isolated, at risk, or in need of support. Operating across the region, our teams offer a watchful presence, a listening ear, and immediate assistance when required—ensuring no veteran is left behind.

Rapid Response

SMEAC deploys teams of veterans to support fellow veterans in need and families in crisis—delivering timely, practical help grounded in trust, shared experience, and solidarity. These teams provide more than just assistance; they offer reassurance, peer connection, and a reminder that no one has to face hardship alone. This model strengthens purpose, reinforces community, and ensures help arrives when it’s needed most.
