1. What is SMEAC?
SMEAC Inc. is a veteran-led, not-for-profit organisation based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
We support Australian Defence Force (ADF) veterans by offering practical, peer-led programs that focus on Reconnection, Rehabilitation, Retraining, and Reintegration into civilian life.
Everything we do is designed to provide “a hand up, not a handout.”
2. What does SMEAC stand for?
SMEAC is a military planning acronym: Situation, Mission, Execution, Administration & Logistics, and Command & Signals. We’ve adopted it as our name to reflect our structured, mission-focused approach to supporting veterans.
3. Who runs SMEAC?
SMEAC is entirely run by volunteers – many of whom are veterans themselves. This ensures that all funding and resources go directly to supporting our community, not administrative overheads.
4. Where is SMEAC located?
Our headquarters is Camp SMEAC, located at 2315 Steve Irwin Way, Landsborough, QLD.
Nestled in natural bushland with lakes, open spaces, and a stunning mountain backdrop, the camp provides a peaceful and purpose-built environment for veterans.
5. Who can access SMEAC’s services?
Our primary focus is on ADF veterans, including current serving members, ex-serving personnel, and reservists.
However, we also welcome family members and supporters to participate in community events and activities.
6. What services does SMEAC provide?
We offer:Veteran triage and support Crisis Accommodation, Peer mentoring and coaching, Well-being programs and group activities.
Access to our 4Rs Framework: Reconnection, Rehabilitation, Retraining, Reintegration, SMEAC Clubs like gardening, chess, beekeeping, music, fishing, BBQ smoking, and more
7. What is the SMEAC Triage Process?
The SMEAC Triage Process is our structured intake system that helps identify a veteran’s most critical needs.
It allows us to build a tailored support plan across health, housing, employment, entitlements, and social reintegration.
8. Can I volunteer with SMEAC?
Absolutely. Volunteers are the backbone of SMEAC. Whether you’re a veteran, family member, or community supporter, you can volunteer in admin, events, groundskeeping, coaching, or mentoring roles. Just complete the Volunteer Form on our website to get started.
9. How do I become a member of SMEAC?
You can join SMEAC as a Veteran Member or Associate Member. Membership includes access to our services, events, clubs, and more. Just fill out the membership form on our website or visit Camp SMEAC.
10. What’s the difference between Veteran and Associate Members?
Veteran Members are current or former ADF personnel.
Associate Members are supporters from the general community who align with our mission and want to help.
Voting rights are restricted to nominated Voting Veteran Members to maintain the integrity of our veteran-focused mission.
11. How is SMEAC funded?
SMEAC operates entirely on donations, sponsorships, grants, and in-kind support. As a volunteer-run charity, 100% of all funds go toward our programs, facilities, and veteran support.
12. Can I donate to SMEAC?
Yes, and your support is greatly appreciated. Donations can be made securely via our website. All funds directly support veterans in need – no money is spent on wages or administrative salaries.
Every round goes directly into the centre of the seen mass.
13. Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes. SMEAC is a registered not-for-profit with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
15. What makes SMEAC different from other veteran organisations?
We are grassroots, run by veterans for veterans, and focused on practical, hands-on support rather than bureaucracy.

16. How do I become a volunteer with SMEAC?
Becoming a volunteer at SMEAC is straightforward – and incredibly rewarding. Whether you’re a veteran, family member, or a passionate community supporter, we welcome people from all walks of life who want to contribute to something meaningful.
To get started:
Complete the SMEAC Volunteer Form, (See Below) – This short online form gathers your basic details, interests, and availability.
- Review the Code of Conduct – We’ll ask you to read and agree to our Volunteer Code of Conduct. It outlines expected behaviours, safety responsibilities, and how we support one another at Camp SMEAC.
- Attend an Intro Session or Site Visit – You’ll be invited to Camp SMEAC to meet the team, see the site, and learn about the roles that might suit you.
- Start Making a Difference – Once onboarded, you can begin helping with activities like camp maintenance, admin support, veteran engagement, events, gardening, BBQs, and more.
All volunteers are supported by our experienced team, and we aim to match roles to your interests, background, and comfort level. Whether you’ve got a specific skill to offer or simply a desire to help, there’s a place for you at SMEAC.
