SMEAC FAQ
SMEAC Inc. – Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is SMEAC?
SMEAC Inc. is a veteran-led, not-for-profit charity based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
We support Australian Defence Force (ADF) veterans through hands-on, peer-led programs focused on Reconnection, Rehabilitation, Retraining, and Reintegration. Everything we do is built on the principle of a hand up, not a handout.
2. What does SMEAC stand for?
SMEAC is a military planning acronym: Situation, Mission, Execution, Administration & Logistics, and Command & Signals. We’ve adopted this structure to guide our veteran-focused mission with clarity and purpose.
3. Who runs SMEAC?
SMEAC is entirely run by volunteers, most of whom are veterans themselves. This ensures that 100% of funds and resources go directly to supporting veterans — not administrative overheads.
4. Where is SMEAC located?
Our headquarters is Camp SMEAC, located at 2315 Steve Irwin Way, Landsborough, QLD.
Set on 50 hectares of bushland beside Ewen Maddock Dam, Camp SMEAC is a peaceful, purpose-built sanctuary offering space, structure, and support.
5. Who can access SMEAC’s services?
Our primary focus is on ADF veterans — including serving, ex-serving, and reservist members.
However, family members and supporters are welcome to attend events, participate in community activities, and volunteer.
6. What services does SMEAC provide?
SMEAC offers:
-
Veteran triage and tailored support plans
-
Crisis and short-term accommodation

The SMEAC Triage Process is a structured intake system that helps identify a veteran’s most urgent and long-term needs across areas such as housing, health, employment, DVA entitlements, and social reintegration.
8. What is the SMEAC 4Rs Framework?
SMEAC’s 4Rs Framework is our model for veteran transition:
-
Reconnection – Building trusted networks and social support

Rehabilitation – Restoring health, resilience, and routine
-
Retraining – Developing new skills and direction
-
Reintegration – Re-entering society with structure and purpose
9. Is Camp SMEAC open to the public?
Camp SMEAC is not open to the public for casual visits. However, we host events, open days, and working bees where community members are welcome to attend. All visits must be pre-arranged to ensure privacy and safety for veterans in care.
10. Does SMEAC provide clinical or medical treatment?
No. SMEAC is not a medical or clinical facility, but we host veteran-friendly GPs, psychologists, and allied health professionals during events like Wellbeing Wednesday. We act as a triage and referral hub, not a healthcare provider.
11. How does SMEAC protect my privacy and data?
SMEAC complies with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Personal data is collected with consent, stored securely, and used only for the purposes for which it was provided. View our full Privacy Policy at smeac.org.au.

SMEAC collaborates with a range of services including Open Arms, RSL QLD, DVA, and local health providers. We provide warm handovers and help veterans navigate existing systems without duplication.

14. What are SMEAC Squads, and who can join?
SMEAC Squads are purpose-driven clubs built around shared interests like beekeeping (Swarm Patrol), fishing (Amphib), BBQ smoking (Smoking Hot), chess (Chess Mate), and music (Band of Brothers).
While many members are veterans, Squads are open to the general public. Anyone aligned with our values can join by becoming a SMEAC member.
